CoCo
‘Co’municación y ‘Co’operación
CoCo
The 'CoCo' project is a regularly organized recreational activity in downtown homes and in the Carambolas and Bello Oriente neighborhoods. Children playfully acquire more information about the importance of ‘Co’munication and‘ Co’operation.
By regularly visiting homes, contact with children can be called intensive; a condition for gaining their trust. Children learn what activities the foundation organizes and what conditions apply to participate structurally. CoCo is organized in the neighborhoods during the holidays and at the end of the year.
Method
During the event, the group of children is divided into groups of five. Each group carries out recreational activity in which communication and cooperation are stimulated. Fun is leading, but it is also important that after the activity the children understand the importance of communicating and cooperating with each other.
The event consists of a variety of fun games for children of different ages and different spaces. The way the activity is organized and the content of the games provide many learning moments that debate each other after the activity.
Promote leadership
In each group of five children a 'group leader' is appointed. The group leader is responsible for his group and contact person for the organization.
Promote independence
The group of children choose the games to play, go to the game independently and read among themselves what is the purpose of the game after which it is played. Activity is encouraged and supervised when necessary by a gaming supervisor.
Activities
The activity is led by a coordinator, each game has a game supervisor and each group of five children a group leader.
During the activities they will make use of the "clothesline principle" organization. In the center, between games, is a clothesline with cards hanging on clothespins; in front they have the game number and behind their explanation.
The group leader picks a card from the clothesline and plays the corresponding game. Subsequently, the game companion gives the group leader a money (toy), depending on the outcome of the game. The group will hang the card on the clothesline and another card is chosen to choose a different game.
The group has one hour to perform all the marked games. It is important that the group itself discovers how to develop each game, in order to obtain as good a result as possible, while also counting time.
After the activity the whole group meets and the activity is evaluated by the coordinator.
